Media Brief- GLOBAL FUND SIGNS US$ 468,643,197 GRANTS FOR UGANDA
The Global Fund has today signed grant agreements with the Government of Uganda amounting to US$ 468,643,197 (Four Hundred Sixty Eight Million Six Hundred Forty Three Thousand, One Hundred Ninety Seven US Dollars) for the implementation period 1st January 2018 to 31st December 2020.
The grants are for supporting Uganda’s fight against the HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis and Malaria epidemics. The Principal Recipients (implementing institutions) of the new grants will be (i) The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) and (2) The AIDS Support Organization (Uganda) Limited (TASO). The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) implements the Global Fund supported programme activities through the Ministry of Health (MoH).
Global Fund Media Event, 7th – 8th November 2013.
Global Fund and Uganda CCM jointly organized a media event from the 7th – 8th November 2013.
The Overall Objective was: To engage the media in order to secure accurate reporting on Global Fund-supported programmes, as well as HIV & AIDS, TB and Malaria in Uganda. Showcase the progress that Uganda has made in the fight against the three diseases. Highlight progress made in the implementation of the national disease strategies and how the Global Fund is supporting the country’s priorities and efforts towards outcome and impact.
- To inform the media and general public about the current Global Fund-supported programmes in the HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria responses in Uganda
- To showcase the benefits, achievements and progress on implementation of the HIV, TB and Malaria interventions supported by Global Fund in Uganda
- To capture and document success stories from the implementation of the HIV, TB and Malaria interventions supported by Global Fund in Uganda.

The media event activities included:
A briefing meeting with the local media on the morning of 7th November 2013 held at Imperial Royale Hotel.
Presentations on the Global Fund and Global Fund grants, grant implementation and achievements were made by the Fund Portfolio Manager for Uganda at the Global Fund, Ms. Caty Fall Sow, and Ministry of Health officials from the National Malaria Control Programme, National Tuberculosis & Leprosy Control Programme and the National AIDS Control Programme.
The presentations were followed by Question & Answer session with the media. 15 media practitioners attended from 15 media houses.
